Polish President Andrzej Duda gave Mateusz Morawiecki a mandate to form a new government. The head of state noted that he held consultations and decided to “continue the good parliamentary tradition,” which is that the party that wins the elections is the first to have the opportunity to form a government.
According to the results of the parliamentary elections held in October, the ruling Law and Justice party received 35.4% of the votes. The Civic Coalition party gained 30.7%, but in a coalition with the Third Way and the New Left (14.4% and 8.6%) received a parliamentary majority.
Morawiecki headed the country’s previous government. On Monday, November 13, he resigned in accordance with the law.
