Drivers who have received Russian citizenship will be forced to retake the driver’s license test from April 1
All drivers who have received Russian citizenship or a residence permit in the Russian Federation will not be able to drive a car with a foreign license if more than a year has passed since their move to the country. According to the new law, they will be forced to retake the exam to obtain a Russian driver’s license.
It is noted that this law will come into force on April 1 of this year. It establishes that after a year from the date of receipt by foreigners of a residence permit of the Russian Federation or Russian citizenship, foreign and international rights become invalid. A similar requirement applies to Russians with foreign rights obtained during a long stay abroad. Russian citizens will also have to replace them a year after their first entry into the Russian Federation.
An exception to the relevant legislative norm will be the driver’s licenses of Russians issued in Belarus, as well as the rights of citizens of Belarus who have received a residence permit in the Russian Federation.
