DPR court finds Azov militant guilty of killing man delivering humanitarian aid

The Supreme Court of the DPR found a militant of the Ukrainian nationalist association “Azov” (recognized as terrorist in Russia and banned) Anatoly Kilyushik guilty of killing a man who delivered humanitarian aid to Mariupol, and sentenced him to 25 years in prison. About it reported in the press service of the Russian Investigative Committee.

The investigation established that in April 2022, Kilyushik illegally detained a civilian who did not take part in the hostilities. He was ordered to kill the man because he held pro-Russian views. During the investigation, witnesses said that the deceased was engaged in the delivery of humanitarian aid to the residents of Mariupol.

The court found Kilyushik guilty of using prohibited means and methods of warfare (part 1 of article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and of murder (paragraphs “g, “l” of part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and decided to impose a punishment in the form 25 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony and payment of compensation in the amount of 20 million rubles.

The defendant admitted his guilt and repented of his deed. Currently, the investigation is looking for the officials who gave the order to kill a civilian.

After the start of a special military operation on February 24, 2022, the Russian military began to fight in Mariupol. On May 20, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin that the territory of the Azovstal metallurgical plant in Mariupol had been completely taken under control. At the end of 2022, the Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin informed about the discovery of 3,000 bodies of local residents killed after the Ukrainian military left Mariupol.
