Donbass is not a place for cultural figures to “repent” - Kommersant

Heroes, not cultural figures, should be sent to Donbass for so-called repentance, says Chairman of the Federation Council (FC) Valentina Matvienko. She announced this at a plenary meeting of the upper house. The topic of sending cultural figures to the military operation zone was raised by Senator Ekaterina Altabaeva.

Ms. Matvienko believes that those artists who initially supported the military operation should be sent there. According to her, the residents of Donbass do not like the fact that those “who have discredited themselves” are sent to them. “Those cultural figures who realized that they were wrong, let them say publicly, explain their position, and Donbass is not the place to send them for so-called repentance,” the chairman of the Federation Council is convinced (quoted by TASS).

Discussions are taking place against the backdrop of a scandal with a party organized by TV presenter Anastasia Ivleeva with an almost naked dress code. Concerts and events of Russian artists who came to the party began to be canceled, and some stars were “cut off the air.” On January 16, President Vladimir Putin spoke about this event in the context of the military operation, saying that “many life priorities are lined up differently, here you won’t be jumping around without pants at any events.” On February 13, Philip Kirkorov, who participated in the party, spoke in front of the wounded in a hospital in the Donetsk People’s Republic. Singer Dima Bilan also came to Donbass. Singer Akim Apachev reportedthat Ms. Ivleeva was “not allowed” into Donbass. She herself did not announce her intention to go there.
