Snowdrifts the size of a man have appeared on Sakhalin

Snowdrifts the size of a man have appeared on Sakhalin, and dogs are completely drowning in the snow. Parked cars have turned into huge piles of snow – almost impossible to dig out because the snow continues to fall. Local residents share the consequences of the bad weather on social networks.

According to the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, the region has been declared “orange”, the penultimate level of weather danger due to severe snowstorms, icing and wind. It is specified that its gusts exceed 20 meters per second, and in some places can reach 32 meters per second. The weather warning will be in effect until 20.00-21.00 Thursday, January 25.

Please remember that local authorities introduced a state of emergency in the region. Dozens of flights were delayed at the local airport, and some roads were completely blocked due to zero visibility, including the cancellation of public transport.

The authorities recommended that residents stay at home and not use personal cars, and companies transfer employees to a remote work format.
