Doctors Without Borders employees came under fire near the Al-Shifa hospital, one of them was killed and another was injured, RIA Novosti reports, citing a statement from the organization.
The report states that Doctors Without Borders members, part of a group of 137 people, moved to southern Gaza in cars from the vicinity of Al-Shifa Hospital. The cars came under fire near the checkpoint, after which the group had to return. Doctors Without Borders said the attack on the organization’s vehicles was deliberate and condemned it, calling on all parties to the conflict to stop the fighting.
Earlier, the head of the World Health Association (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that an urgent plan was being prepared to evacuate patients and staff from Al-Shifa Hospital. “No water, no food, no electricity, no fuel, supplies of medicines are exhausted,” he said. It is reported that 25 health workers and 291 patients remain in the hospital at the moment. They are planned to be moved to the southern regions of Gaza within 1-3 days.
