A married couple from St. Petersburg with rare chromosomal mutations was able to give birth to a healthy child. This became possible thanks to the efforts of doctors, Izvestia writes. This is the first such case in the world practice.
Spouses who had a translocation of chromosomes turned to specialists. The husband at that time was 36 years old, his wife – 28. They could not have children due to gene mutation. The doctors decided to try IVF.
Among the embryos at the stage of development, when they had 8 cells, they selected one that did not have abnormalities in the structure of chromosomes. The couple had a healthy baby who did not inherit dangerous mutations from their parents. The scientists published a report on the work done in an international journal.
It is noted that the couple would like to give birth to a second child. But this is no longer possible, since the risk of pathologies increases with the age of the mother.
