Therapist, immunologist Irina Yartseva said that during the New Year holidays we should expect a decrease in the number of people infected with the influenza virus against the backdrop of a decrease in the number of people working in the office. The specialist believes that the next bursts of infections should be expected at the end of January and in March.
According to the immunologist, the holiday period is good for Russians, as office work, school and kindergarten visits are suspended at this time, which is the most important in the spread of the virus. Yartseva clarified that contacts are ending, people are leaving for their dachas, taking to the streets and starting to spend more time in nature. As the doctor noted, this is better than working, because in ten days the chains of infection are interrupted, and the spread of the virus stops.
The immunologist called this period “semi-quarantine”, emphasizing that during the holidays there are still events and crowded places associated with the risk of infection, namely restaurants, bars, New Year’s holidays and trips to guests. Nevertheless, Yartseva considers the main thing that the work of the most frequent foci of the spread of infection, which are offices, is suspended.
The specialist added that on weekends people ride the subway less and use public transport, preferring personal transport. Yartseva concluded that the season of increased incidence will not end after the New Year holidays, given that the main outbreaks of the disease occur in November, late January and March.
