And any immunodeficiency is a risk factor for the development of chronic diseases, ranging from cardiovascular problems to dementia.” He added that he is following ongoing scientific studies that show that if someone has a severely weakened immune system after two infections, it is recommended to avoid further exposure to covid infections.
…There are more and more studies that confirm the negative impact of COVID-19 on all aspects of human health in the world. Scientists agree: no form of COVID-19 is harmless. Thus, a study by the British Biobank showed that even a mild coronavirus infection increases the risk of death from all causes by 10 (!) times, and among those hospitalized with COVID-19 – by 100 times.
American scientists have calculated that for one death from COVID-19 in 2021, there are 25.5 years of life lost. At the same time, at the end of 2022 (when the world began to live with covid as if there was no covid), more and more data is being published indicating extraordinary levels of excess mortality. For example, last year Switzerland recorded one of the highest levels of excess deaths since 1887 (it was higher only in 2020). Numerous scientific publications show that not only a mild infection can significantly impair health in the future, but even asymptomatic carriage of SARS-CoV-2 dramatically increases the risk of developing or exacerbating chronic diseases. At the same time, new SARS-CoV-2 mutations carry new risks. Thus, the “children” of “Omicron” BA.2 and BA.5 severely damage the cells of the heart muscle cardiomyocytes. In addition, BA.5 demonstrates increased neurovirulence – it infects different parts of the brain. According to recent reports, the new Kraken is much more likely than previous versions to lead to eye diseases, including potentially fraught with blindness.
Infection with SARS-CoV-2, as noted in a number of studies, leads to the reactivation of viruses dormant in the body for the time being, such as the Epstein-Barr virus, herpes, etc. They also begin to undermine the immune system from the inside and reduce its resource. “No one knows what state the immune system will be in children 10 years from the start of the pandemic – like in older people?” – asks a well-known expert, doctor of laboratory diagnostics Alexander Solovyov.
Well, the long course of coronavirus infection, long-term, is already being called a “pandemic within a pandemic.” Today, expert estimates suggest that longcovid has already affected at least 65 million people in the world. Most likely, in reality there are much more of them. At the same time, the whole horror of the situation is that doctors still do not have a single idea of \u200b\u200bhow to treat it, and whether it can be treated at all. Scientists who have recently analyzed studies on this issue have come to the conclusion that for some time (probably for a long time), helping long-term patients will remain largely a “creative” process, and its effectiveness will depend on the activity of the patient and those involved, and rather even dedicated to the topic of individual doctors.
“2023 could be a year of acknowledging the serious mistakes that have led to so much death, disability and prolonged suffering due to COVID-19. The 5-10% of people of working age who drop out of the labor market due to long-term employment become hard to ignore. It is even more difficult to explain the increased waves of COVID-19 and the increase in deaths over the past year. We need to adapt to the inevitable multiple infection, maintaining and restoring our health,” says Alexander Solovyov.
As a well-known immunologist, director of a contract research company, Nikolai Kryuchkov, told MK, there is a lot of scientific evidence that repeated illness with covid every time causes more and more serious harm to health: “Even if the disease is mild, the consequences are more and more serious each time . What can be said about immunodeficiency?
– Yes, there are immunodeficiencies after covid, but more often after multiple infections – 4-5 times or more. If a person is cured successfully, the vast majority of drawdowns are not immune. But, given the identified trend, in those who have been ill many times, even initially healthy, the consequences will be more and more serious. So far, we have not observed such consequences as with HIV, but a blow to the immune system is being dealt. Each time after COVID-19, the adaptive capabilities of the body decrease, and the immune system sags more persistently, for example, sometimes there is a deficiency of the lymphocytic link. It is difficult to estimate the scale of such defeats.
— What organs and systems suffer the most during post-COVID-19?
– From the point of view of long-term consequences, the following directions are distinguished. First: the CNS, especially potentially low-level inflammation in the brain, which can increase the chances of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, etc. Second: the reproductive system, especially in men. Third: the immune system – a viral infection causes temporary immunosuppression. How durable it is is unclear. Right now, we do not have a record incidence, and yet there is a huge army of people who have been ill. The short-term consequences of covid have been studied, as well as the medium-term ones (mortality during the whole year and even more after an illness from cardiovascular diseases increases greatly, and after the flu – only for a maximum of 2 months). But little is known about the long-term consequences, and they can drag on for years. And this includes immunosuppression – it is still impossible to say how reversible they are. And this is a very serious issue – a prolonged burden on healthcare. Therefore, it is necessary to counteract the spread of infection. New outbreaks are likely, the virus continues to mutate, and the pandemic has not been stopped. And those who have been ill do not always remain healthy. Therefore, everything must be done to prevent new infections.
