Dismantling of the monument to Soviet soldiers completed in Riga: video

On August 25, in Riga, in Victory Park, the main and last element of the monument to the liberators of Soviet Latvia was dismantled – a 79-meter obelisk with stars.
The obelisk collapsed to the ground to the applause and cheers of the assembled locals. Demolition of the memorial complex lasted three days. On August 23, the statues of three warriors were dismantled, and on August 24, a female figure was removed.
The monument in the park was erected in 1985 on the 40th anniversary of the victory of the USSR over Nazi Germany. Russians living in Latvia have been protesting for many days against the demolition of this complex. A strong protest was also expressed in the Russian government.
