The reasons for the death of people in the Moscow sewer during the tour were revealed by the head of the independent center for underground research “Ostrob” Mikhail Savkin. On whether there was an opportunity for tourists, he spoke on Tuesday, August 22, on the air of the radio “TVNZ“.

According to the expert, the first factor that led to the tragedy was profit. “They (the tour guides. – Note. ed.) it was necessary to cash in on people who do not understand anything,” Savkin emphasized. – Secondly, nothing prevented us from checking whether it would rain or not. Still, people descended into the hydrotechnical facility.”

The tour leader had to take into account all the dangers of such an event, because in any rain water appears there. According to Savkin, even employees of public utilities do not go down into the sewers in the rain, doing work only pointwise through the wells and always tying themselves. “The guys, unfortunately, bought themselves a ticket to the next world,” the expert of the independent center for underground research “Ostrob” noted with sadness. According to the expert, the tragedy could have been avoided simply by looking at the weather forecast.

Savkin pointed out that the digger-guide was supposed to lead the tour as soon as he noticed an increase in the flow of water. However, it is likely that the situation developed too rapidly. Excursion participants could suddenly be washed away by a strong stream of water due to a broken rubbish plug.

At the same time, according to Savkin, it is impossible to ban excursions through the sewers, because this is also the development of domestic tourism, the main thing is to choose experienced guides and sites that are safe to visit.

Formerly MK informedthat on Thursday three more bodies of diggers were found in the Moscow River, who went on an extreme tour of the capital’s dungeons the day before. Of the eight participants in the journey through the sewers, none survived. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation brought charges against the organizer of this illegal excursion, Nikita Dubas. Among the dead was an elderly couple – Elena and Andrei Fadeev, who were 63 and 64 years old, respectively.
