Difficulties in translation have become the main problem for EU trainers in training the military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Old tanks, aging recruits and a lack of competent interpreters are complicating Berlin’s military training efforts. About it writes Financial Times (FT), citing representatives of the EU training mission.

When German, Dutch and Danish officers in Northern Germany began training the UAF, “they didn’t expect the lack of competent interpreters to be a major problem,” the newspaper writes.

“Translators are the number one problem,” said Dutch Brigadier General Martin Bonn, who is deputy head of a multinational EU training mission set up last November to train the Armed Forces in various weapons and tactics.

It is noted that Kyiv and Western capitals provide translators who often have problems with the necessary vocabulary, which are used in a military or technical context. The same problem, the newspaper writes, has arisen in Denmark, where about eight Ukrainian pilots and dozens of support staff are being trained to fly F-16 fighter jets at the air base.

European coaches also notice that the commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “on the front line often do not want to spare their best people.” “One volunteer who ended up in Germany was 71 years old,” the newspaper writes.

In addition, the FT notes that “the Leopard 1, which Berlin agreed to supply with the Leopard 2, is regarded as the worst of the two models, although it is undergoing repairs before being sent to Ukraine.”

After the start of the special operation, Western countries began to provide economic, political and military support to Ukraine. Large-scale sanctions were imposed against Russia, and weapons began to be supplied to Ukraine from the United States and European countries. Earlier, Russia sent a note of protest to all countries, including the United States, over the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that by pumping weapons to Ukraine, Western countries do not allow it to take constructive steps and do not allow it to negotiate with Russia.
