The official visit to Turkey by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky amid his country’s conflict with Russia did not lead to a chill in relations between Ankara and Moscow. This statement was made on Monday, August 28, by the chief adviser to the Turkish leader, Akif Çağatay Kılıç.
The politician expressed disagreement with the allegations of a “cold” relationship with Russia after the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Turkey.
Kılıç stressed that the Turkish side managed to gain the trust of all participants in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict from the very beginning.
Questions regarding the change in the nature of Russian-Turkish relations also arose after Ankara handed over to Kiev six commanders of the Azov nationalist battalion (recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in the Russian Federation).
Turkey assured that they provided Russia with all explanations on this issue. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also promised bring this topic up again during a personal meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
