Three-time world champion and nine-time USSR sambo champion Alexander Pushnitsa has died at the age of 73. For a long time he fought cancer. Omsk Mayor Sergei Shelest announced his death (Pushnitsa was an honorary citizen of Omsk).
“An unsurpassed champion in sambo, a wonderful, kind person, Alexander Mikhailovich Pushnitsa, has passed away. We all have yet to realize what a loss this is. Sincere condolences to relatives, friends and pupils, ”Sergey Shelest wrote in Telegram channel. Alexander Pushnitsa was the Deputy Chairman of the Sambo Federation of the Omsk region, led the sports club named after him.
Alexander Pushnitsa was an Honored Master of Sports of the USSR. He played for the Dynamo sports society. Pushnitsa won the World Championships in 1974, 1979 and 1983, and the World Cup in 1977 and 1980. Twice won the European Championship – in 1976 and 1984. Nine times Pushnitsa received the title of champion of the USSR: from 1974 to 1980, as well as in 1983 and 1984.
