Alexander Pushnitsa, a Soviet sambo wrestler, nine-time champion of the USSR, two-time European champion, three-time winner of world championships, and vice-president of the World Sambo Federation, died at the age of 73.
According to the Sambo and Judo Federation of the Omsk Region, the cause of death of the most titled Soviet sambo wrestler was an oncological disease.
Pushnitsa represented the sports society “Dynamo” and at one time managed to work as an inspector of the criminal investigation department. At the age of 25, he first became the champion of the USSR and the world, and two years later, the champion of Europe. The athlete also has achievements in judo. In 1978 he became the bronze medalist of the USSR championship.
His twin brother Vladimir Pushnitsa was also a famous sambist. He passed away back in 2000.
