“DiCaprio in the toilet became the reason”: actress Krainova was upset at the Cannes Film Festival

The closing ceremony of the International Cannes Film Festival took place over the weekend. This year, for obvious reasons, there were much fewer representatives from Russia, and our Russian actors could be counted on one hand. The star of the TV series “The Diary of Doctor Zaitseva” Yana Krainova was one of the few at this festival of film life. She told MK about how the festival went after her return from France.

“This is my second Cannes Film Festival. The first was in 2021, a post-COVID festival, and then there were a thousand times fewer people, and besides, I managed to get to the opening ceremony. I saw both Marion Cotillard and Pedro Almodovar. Then it was possible to get tickets for the best films through accreditation, and our cinema was also presented. For example, Serebrennikov presented the painting “Petrovs in the flu”, I was at this premiere.

This time I received accreditation as an actress, I came and thought that it would be the same as two years ago, but it turned out to be something impossible.

Almost everyone was brought to Cannes this year, from Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence to Robert De Niro, Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchett and Naomi Campbell. Who was not there!

The number of people wishing to get to the festival’s events just rolled over. To get to the screenings, it was necessary to reserve tickets at seven in the morning, when registration opened. I got up at 6.50 for this, pressed the button at seven in the morning, but I couldn’t reserve a ticket, because the site just crashed at that moment. It was impossible to get to the most popular shows. I tried my luck to get on Martin Scorsese, but, unfortunately, it didn’t work out, ”said the artist.

However, Yana did not leave without vivid impressions.

“During my stay at the shows, I saw DiCaprio, who, before presenting the picture, walked five meters from me to the toilet. By the way, for the early birds who could not get to the main screening, at 8-9 in the morning, fortunately, films were repeated. So I got to the world premiere of the film with Jude Law and Alicia Vikander.

Jude Law shocked me with his acting work. He played Henry VIII and Vikander his wife. It’s amazing how from handsome, young dad, Jude Law turned into a fat, mired in vices man.

I left the hotel for the premiere of the film with Lowe in a dress with a train and white hotel slippers. I picked up my shoes and jumped into a taxi, drove this kilometer in a taxi, changed into sandals in front of the red carpet so as not to kill them to the end. I took a picture in them and changed into slippers in the hall again. That’s also possible. There, in general, you could see stars in ball gowns and slippers walking along the streets.

By the way, I still managed to get to the important secular premiere of the French film “Acid”, walk along the red carpet and then receive photos and videos from the official photographers and videographers of the festival. By the way, appearing on the red carpet in Cannes is not as easy as in Russia.

There were still many business people at the festival who bought and sold films and signed contracts. That is, it is 10 days of creative and business filming. Well, every day there were movie parties from world publications or jewelry companies, but only people of the level of Leonardo Di Caprio got there, there were no more than a couple of hundred guests. Well, nothing, I have everything ahead! Someday I will definitely be invited there, ”the actress smiles.

As usual, not without curiosities. The shoes of the Russian star could not stand the Cannes paths and authentic cobbled streets: “That evening, when I saw Leonardo DiCaprio at the toilet, I lost my heels near the red carpet, and the heel of my beautiful expensive sandals “went”. I had to urgently buy new sandals, and as a result, I bought good golden “Cinderella shoes” from the French brand, in which I defiled on the red carpet. By the way, I also “killed” them in the end. Therefore, the first thing I did on the way from the airport in Moscow was to stop by a shoe repairman and give my lucky red carpet shoes.”

Of course, movie fans are interested in the question, how did foreign colleagues treat people from Russia? Were there any communication problems? According to Krainova, she did not feel the hatred.

“A so-called international village was built at the festival – these are white tents under the flags of certain countries. I was invited to the Irish Film Pavilion, where there were people from different countries. There, for example, I met a lady from Italy who is engaged in film production. And when I told her that I was an actress born in Latvia, but filming in Russia, her personal reaction was: “In Moscow? What’s going on there?”

I answered that life is happening there, we are making films, we are engaged in creativity. And someone, when I said that I was a Russian-speaking actress, was surprised: “Wow!” And all these people were interested in what was happening in Russian cinema. I did not see any prejudice or neglect. True, not a single Russian film was presented in the competition program, but this, as they say, is politics.
