Developers will be obliged to build playgrounds for dogs

In Russia, a standard will be set for the construction of play and training grounds for dogs. A working group under the Ministry of Construction is developing rules, and the first developments were presented to the Izvestia newspaper. The document will establish planning norms and a list of materials for these sites. The number of playgrounds will be linked to the population, so that they become an integral part of the city’s pet infrastructure. The construction of new facilities should not entail an increase in cost, developers say.

The creation of infrastructure for dogs is planned to be included in the set of rules “Urban planning, planning and development of urban and rural areas” depending on the population. A standard for site construction will also be developed. A special working group, mentioned in the letter of the Public Council under the Ministry of Construction, is developing such rules. “Izvestia” got acquainted with a copy of the document containing the first proposals.
“We need to introduce a typology of dog infrastructure, including play and training areas, walking areas and park areas from 1 hectare,” said Artem Gebelev, head of the working group on dog walking infrastructure at the Public Council of the Ministry.
It is proposed to establish norms for the functional zoning of playgrounds depending on their type, separate play equipment from training equipment, and provide infrastructure for animal owners, such as sheds. It will also be necessary to approve the list of materials for construction.
For example, instead of sand, which is often used today, it is proposed to use pebbles, wood chips, special grass turf or artificial sports turf as a surface.
