Design work has begun on the restoration of the Kakhovskaya HPP

In the Kherson region, design work has begun on the restoration of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. This was announced by the Acting Governor Vladimir Saldo, transmits “RIA News”.

“I think that no matter how much money would be needed [на восстановление Каховской ГЭС], this is an economically viable project and it will pay off. Therefore, here it is not a matter of means, but of desire and expediency. There are such intentions, and plans are already being drafted,” he said.

The breakthrough of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station occurred on the night of June 6. As a result of the incident, 11 out of 28 spans of the station were destroyed, after which an uncontrolled discharge of water began. The level of water rise reached 11 m. As a result of the tragedy, 57 people died.

At the end of August, at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Saldo informedthat the consequences of flooding are almost completely eliminated. According to him, the total amount of funds paid to the affected residents amounted to 300 million rubles. Putin previously called the incident a barbaric action by the Ukrainian authorities, which led to a large-scale environmental and humanitarian catastrophe.

In June, Saldo announced that the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station was to be restored. In July he pointed outthat the object will “definitely be restored” as soon as the situation permits. The Acting Governor explained that the irrigation of the dry steppes of the Kherson, Zaporozhye regions and the Northern Crimea depends on the hydroelectric power station. In August, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian government Marat Khusnullin also called for the restoration of the Kakhovskaya HPP.
