Men are not recommended to use universal 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 products, and should not use cosmetics designed for women, since not all such products are suitable for men. Nikolai Potekaev, chief freelance specialist in dermatovenerology and cosmetology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the capital’s Department of Health, spoke about this.
He noted that men often prefer to buy universal “2-in-1” and “3-in-1” products.
“When using such products, it is necessary to remember that the amount of sebum, the state of the skin microflora, the thickness of hair on the scalp, face and torso are different. Therefore, it is recommended to use different products,” he explained.
The doctor noted that in childhood, the skin of boys and girls is almost the same, but after the onset of puberty, the level of the hormone testosterone increases in boys, which affects the physiology of male skin. Men’s skin is 20% denser and thicker than women’s, and contains more collagen, making it firmer. This means that men should be aware that not all products used by women are suitable for them.
Potekaev added that men’s skin tends to be oilier, which makes them less prone to dryness but more prone to acne due to increased sebum production. Regular shaving can also make men’s skin more sensitive, so it’s important to use gentle cleansers that clean well and don’t irritate the skin.
