Deripaska urged to reduce the number of officials and security officials in Russia

The number of officials and security forces in Russia should be reduced in order to give the economy more freedom from the state apparatus. This statement was made by the founder of Rusal, Oleg Deripaska, at the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum.
“About officials, it seems to me that the time has come to reduce them somehow. <...> Reduction of officials – two to three times, law enforcement officers – a couple of times, ”the businessman urged (quote according to TASS).
Deripaska made such a proposal when discussing the effectiveness of management. According to him, “light stress always helps” to resolve this issue. The businessman drew attention to the fact that such a step would also help attract new personnel.
Deripaska called the current number of officials “a burden on the economy” on which “weights hang” because of the sanctions. According to the businessman, the issue of an excess of the state apparatus and state capitalism is “already overdue.” He stressed that businesses need “more freedom to compete.”
The statements of the founder of Rusal were made as part of a panel discussion on the restructuring of the Russian economy against the backdrop of US and EU sanctions. Deripaska also pointed to the need to ensure the attractiveness of the Russian markets for investors from friendly countries. He emphasized the importance of “rule of law and predictability”. Deripaska also warned the Russian authorities against changing the “rules of the game.” According to him, because of such actions of Russia, “no one will believe” – neither Russian nor foreign companies.
At the end of 2022 Deripaska offered allow businessmen to run for office. He stated that the transition to a real market economy without “all the chimeras of harmful state capitalism” is possible only if entrepreneurs are equalized with other social groups. According to him, for this, Art. 159 (“Fraud”), art. 160 (“Assignment or embezzlement”) and a number of other articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, according to which they “break the fate of entrepreneurs, keeping them in prison for years.”
