The German upgraded Puma infantry fighting vehicles went out of action shortly after the start of the exercises in the German army. This was reported by the newspaper Der Spiegel, citing a letter from Major General Ruprecht von Butler to the country’s Ministry of Defense.

The major general said that all 18 vehicles delivered to the army during the eight days of exercises in Lower Saxony were out of order, some caught fire.

“From the 18 infantry fighting vehicles with which the company began the exercises, combat readiness has dropped to 0 infantry fighting vehicles over the past eight days. So, a complete failure, ”Von Butler pointed out.

According to him, the last two BMPs were out of order due to a defect in the turret. The publication notes that the danger is the electronics of high-tech infantry fighting vehicles. In one of the Cougars, there was a serious fire in the cable in the driver’s compartment. The military was aware of the nature of the defects, but failures had not occurred so often before.

Significant spending of budget money on the modernization of the BMP did not live up to expectations, added von Butler.
