Deputy State Duma Zatulin proposed to introduce the death penalty for terrorist attacks
Konstantin Zatulin, First Deputy Head of the Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation for CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, said that it is necessary to introduce the death penalty for terrorist attacks, especially if they are directed against young people and occurred in educational institutions. He said this in an interview with the radio station. “Moscow Speaks”.
“I believe that the lifting of the moratorium and, accordingly, the restoration of the death penalty for exceptional cases and exceptional crimes has long been in demand in Russia … And I think that it is precisely in relation to the perpetrators of terrorist attacks that the use of the death penalty is quite justified,” the deputy believes.
He believes that tougher penalties for committing such crimes should send a signal to all planners of terrorist attacks that the most severe punishment will come, and not just a term that they can serve.
According to Zatulin, the return of the death penalty as a punishment for a crime does not contradict the Constitution.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that no decisions had been made in the Kremlin regarding the lifting of the moratorium on the death penalty in Russia.
