Deputy Matveev proposed to introduce a “tax on fun” in favor of the participants in the special operation

State Duma deputy from the Communist Party Mikhail Matveev proposed to keep 1% of the account in restaurants, cafes and nightclubs. The proceeds are proposed to be used to support the families of servicemen taking part in the hostilities in Ukraine.

“There is a proposal to introduce such a tax on fun, so that people who visit cafes, restaurants, nightclubs, transfer 1% from their account to, perhaps, the fund that the president spoke about, a fund to support mobilized families,” said Mr. Matveev on the air of Samara radio “TVNZ”. According to him, the initiative was taken by one local restaurateur, who believes that withholding 1% of the bill will not be burdensome for the visitor.

Mikhail Matveev said that a relevant bill is currently being developed. He did not specify the details, explaining that he would submit the document to the State Duma as soon as work on it was completed. “I think this is not a burdensome extra charge, less than the usual tip, but on a national scale a huge amount,” the deputy added in his Telegram channel.

President Vladimir Putin created a state fund to support participants in the Defenders of the Fatherland special operation in early April. According to his decree, the fund will provide support to veterans of the military operation, as well as those who have participated in hostilities in the Donbass since 2014. It is planned to be financed from the federal budget, as well as voluntary contributions, donations and “other sources”.
