The Governor of the Pskov Region, Mikhail Vedernikov, signed a decree conferring the powers of the senator from the region on the first deputy commander of the Airborne Forces of the Russian Federation, Alexei Naumts, reported press service of the regional government.

At a meeting with the new senator, Vedernikov said that one of the main tasks is the protection of military personnel and members of their families. For this, Naumts has a “reliable partner” in the Federation Council – Andrei Turchak, the governor said.

“I will make every effort to achieve the assigned tasks as much as possible,” Naumets said.

Naumets was born in 1968 and has the rank of major general. He served in the Russian Armed Forces since 1986. From 2005 to 2007, he was chief of staff – deputy commander of the 104th Airborne Regiment of the 76th Airborne Division. After which he led the Pskov Airborne Forces unit for five years, and then took the position of Deputy Chief of Staff of the Airborne Forces. In April 2022, he was appointed deputy commander of the Airborne Forces.

In the Federation Council, Naumets will replace Elena Bibikova. She has represented the Pskov government in the upper house of parliament since September 2014.

September 27 Vedernikov officially took office as governor of the Pskov region. This is his second term. In the September elections he received 86.3% of the vote.
