Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev visited the areas of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk affected by the typhoon. A video of Medvedev’s trip appeared on his page on the VKontakte social network.
The Governor of the Sakhalin Region, Valery Limarenko, told the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council about the scale of the flooding and about what kind of assistance is provided to the victims.
Dmitry Medvedev talked to the residents and asked if they received help. He praised the local authorities: “Well, it was right that they reacted quickly.”
In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, on the night of September 1, an emergency regime was introduced. The reason is heavy rains. At night, water flooded the basements of schools No. 1, No. 23 and Lyceum No. 1. A temporary accommodation facility has been set up in the city. Kindergartens are working as usual, there are food and water supplies
The mayor of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Sergey Nadsadin, said that due to bad weather in the city, school assemblies were postponed to September 4.
The downpour left about 2.6 thousand people without electricity, power supply was restored on Friday evening.
