Departmental security of the Russian Federation may be allowed to shoot down drones with the help of special equipment

The State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption supported amendments to the bill on strengthening control over the circulation of weapons, which allow employees of departmental security to use special technical means to shoot down drones. The relevant amendments are published on site State Duma.

Changes may affect the law “On Departmental Protection”. Its employees will be able to shoot down UAVs “in order to repel an attack on protected objects.” Suppression means the suppression or transformation of remote control signals of drones, the impact on their control panels, as well as their damage or destruction, the text of the amendment proposed during the consideration of the bill in the second reading says.

In June, the State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill on strengthening control over the circulation of weapons. It provides for the verification of candidates for receiving firearms by the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB. The project prohibits the issuance of licenses for weapons for persons whom law enforcement officers, as a result of a check, will convict of involvement in an organized criminal group, as well as the presence of intentions to use weapons for illegal purposes.
