The fact that stress, anxiety and nervous tension can lead to serious problems with teeth and gums, dentist Asya Gabueva told “Gazete.Ru”.
When a person is nervous, the body, according to the expert, releases cortisol, the so-called stress hormone, which affects the composition of saliva, increasing the level of acidity. Further, as noted by Gabueva, this leads to the accelerated development of caries, stomatitis and other diseases of the oral cavity.
Stress, among other things, can worsen the condition of the gums, cause periodontitis, gingivitis. Stress can also cause periodontal disease. “This can lead to tooth loss,” the doctor warned.
In addition, with stress, muscle tension appears in the mouth, and this can lead to bruxism. This is the name of the involuntary clenching of teeth and grinding them in a dream, the dentist explained.
However, stress is an inevitable part of life. Gabueva advised to remember how it affects us and take measures to prevent it. She urged to pay attention to their health in a timely manner and not to forget about regular visits to the dentist.
