“Democracy is at the same time protecting the rights of both the majority and the minority”

On Thursday, October 20, two bills on a complete ban on LGBT propaganda were submitted to the State Duma. If adopted, the innovations will apply not only to minors, as it was before, but also to citizens of all ages. Kommersant asked politicians, activists and cultural figures if they had encountered the promotion of non-traditional values.

Roman Suleymanov, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, RUDN University:

– Did not encounter. But that doesn’t matter.

Psychosexual deviations have been excluded from the international classification of diseases for more than 30 years. Numerous studies have shown that these deviations are biologically determined. It is an innate, unchanging desire. An anomaly that cannot be cured by drugs or anything else.

99% of the LGBT community is not mentally ill. The remaining percentage are people in whom the pathological inversion of sexual desire occurs mainly against the background of schizophrenia. They decide that they are changing sex due to spoilage, exposure, and so on.

There is an international classification of diseases, where not sexual orientation itself is considered a pathology, but rather the psychological discomfort associated with it, caused by the fear of intolerance on the part of others.

My opinion is that the problem of LGBT propaganda is not imposed by their representatives. This is a problem in our society. After all, there is a Constitution in which everyone is guaranteed freedom of thought and speech.
