The Delfi publication reported that the Latvian Seimas adopted amendments to the law on support for the civilian population of Ukraine.
It is clarified that, according to the innovations, cars that were seized in Latvia from drunk drivers can be transferred to the ownership of the government of Ukraine.
According to Raimonds Bergmanis, Chairman of the Commission on Defense, Internal Affairs and Prevention of Corruption, the Lithuanian government can currently sell seized cars, disassembling them for spare parts or recycling them.
“Under the current conditions, these cars could be useful for the people of Ukraine. Therefore, we have made the appropriate decision,” added Bergmanis.
At the same time, the government will make a decision on each specific seized car. The cars will be transferred to Ukraine through a special organization that cooperates with the Ukrainian authorities.
