The Delfi portal reported that police removed former Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas from a flight at Helsinki Airport.

The report states that Rõivas accompanied Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna during his visit to Japan and was part of the business delegation. The plane from Helsinki was just heading to Tokyo.

Liisa Toots, director of the Foreign Ministry’s public relations bureau, confirmed that Rõivas was removed from the flight, but could not say for what reasons. At the same time, Estonian journalists, citing eyewitnesses, report that Rõivas was intoxicated at the airport, and on the plane he got into an argument with the flight attendants, after which the police boarded the plane.

Rõivas himself stated that reports about his drunken state are slander. According to him, the dispute arose because he was prohibited from using a laptop. He added that he filed a complaint with Finnair and demanded compensation for the damage.
