The head of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, said during the commission meeting that during the presidential elections on March 15–17, 2024, remote electronic voting (DEG) will be held in 29 regions. According to her, out of 30 regions that already had such experience, 28 submitted applications. She noted that for the first time the DEG will be held in only one subject – in the Vologda region.
“We recently had a super-large training session, during which we covered a huge area of all regions. Vologda voters showed very high interest in this type of voting… We decided to give the go-ahead,” said Mrs. Pamfilova. According to her, the DEG in 2024 could cover about 38 million voters.
On December 7, Ms. Pamfilova said that the DEG, in any case, would be carried out only in those regions where there was already such experience. “We are not going to take risks during the presidential campaign,” she said during the meeting. If all 30 regions applied to participate in the DEG, remote voting would cover 49 million voters. It is known that the Tula and Orenburg regions did not submit an application for DEG.
