Defense Minister Robles: Spain will never send troops to Ukraine

Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles said that Spanish troops would never take part in the conflict in Ukraine. She said this in an interview with the Vanguardia newspaper.
According to her, the Spanish military will intervene if there is an “attack on a NATO country”. “Never, never a single detachment of the country of the bloc will participate,” the head of the Spanish defense department categorically stated.
Robles stressed that the Leopard battle tanks supplied to Ukraine should not be used to attack Russia. “I insist that tanks have only one purpose: protection,” she said.
Robles at the same time called the idea of joint purchases of weapons and ammunition for Ukraine by European countries reasonable.
It is not necessary, in her opinion, to expect the start of a nuclear war. “Things will not come to such a scenario,” she assured. “Because it would be terribly tragic for humanity.”
In January, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced that since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, the kingdom’s government has allocated more than 300 million euros for military assistance to Kyiv.
