December 5 – the beginning of the sleigh journey

December 5 in the folk calendar is Prokopiev’s day. It was believed that from that day a solid sledge track was established. Therefore, on this day, they went out to lay a toboggan road on the ice and set winter milestones so that travelers would not get lost during a snowstorm.

Winter milestones were stakes with rags or tow at the end. They served as a kind of landmarks on the sleigh route through large rivers or in the steppe, where there were no other landmarks. Milestones men usually set the whole village. And after the completion of the case, they arranged a holiday in honor of the beginning of the sleigh journey.

Children on Prokop usually arranged noisy games on the street – they played snowballs, rode down hills, built snow fortresses.

It is impossible today to give someone salt, sugar, flour or water – our ancestors believed that this boded trouble and maybe even lead to lack of money and hungry times.

Guests who spend the night in your house need to lay only new linen, otherwise discord is possible in the family.

Also, today you should not play peepers – you can quarrel for a long time. In addition, you can not be lazy and do your duties carelessly, otherwise you can lose your job and income.

Natural signs on December 5 are as follows:
