Death rate rises sharply in Moscow pre-trial detention centers

35 prisoners of the capital’s pre-trial detention center died in 2022. This figure was announced at a meeting of the public council of the Commissioner for Human Rights in Moscow by the head of the medical department of the capital’s Federal Penitentiary Service Galina Timchuk. Mortality in Moscow pre-trial detention centers has increased by almost 40 percent compared to last year. So, in 2021, 22 people died, this year there are already 35. The vast majority of them died from diseases. In the first place are cardiovascular diseases, in the second – infectious diseases (HIV and others).
