Averbukh reacted to Zelensky’s imposition of sanctions against him and other athletes

Russian figure skater, ice show director Ilya Averbukh commented on his inclusion in the list of athletes against whom Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky imposed sanctions.

The figure skater and director noted that the last time he was in Kyiv was in 2013 and celebrated his birthday on December 18. “Maidan was already going around, a complete bacchanalia, the nearest metro stations were blocked,” Averbukh recalled. Despite the situation, the Ice Palace was crowded – 10,000 people from Kiev came to the show, giving a warm welcome, the director of the performance emphasized.

Among the current athletes out of 87 citizens against whom sanctions have been imposed are figure skaters Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, Alena Kostornaya, Alexandra Boykova, Mark Kondratyuk, Nikita Katsalapov, Dmitry Kozlovsky, Ivan Bukin.

Sanctions are imposed for a period of 50 years, with respect to some athletes – for 5 years.
