“Deadly things at a depth of a meter”: the Turk spoke about the mines found in the resort

About 30 unexploded shells were found on the Turkish Black Sea beach near Istanbul near the coast at shallow depths! Turkish law enforcement and the media limited themselves to reporting that the beaches of the Şile district were closed for swimming, further searches were underway, and the origin of the shells already found was being established.
And we talked with a resident of the town, on the beach of which a deadly find was discovered.
Zeki is 33 years old, he was born and raised in Sofular Mahallesi of the Shile district – just in the village whose beach was closed first. Zeki works as a waiter in Istanbul, it is more than 80 kilometers from his home, so during the working week the young man spends the night in Istanbul at the restaurant where he works. But after this weekend, he took a vacation and stayed in his native Sofular:
“Four sons of my sister, aged 8 to 13, live in our house,” Zeki explains. – And this is exactly the age when the boys stick their nose everywhere. And only they swim in the sea in our village. My sister and her husband work in Istanbul, and my mother looks after their children. But her legs are sore to run after them. I stayed behind to make sure they didn’t climb onto the closed beach.
Who found the mines? Also boys?
– It was still on Friday, one person from our village went to the beach – just in order to drive home a 10-year-old son, they tumbled in the water in a company there. They shouted to him that there was something large and metallic in the water. The father immediately took all the children out of there and called the police. They quickly arrived, cordoned off the beach and announced that it would definitely be closed for swimming in the coming days. It was already getting dark on Friday, and the next day the forecast for the state of the water was doubtful, and divers can overlook a lot in a muddy sea. In general, the beach is closed, and we are only happy. Fortunately, I am not strong in this, but we are told that these are not mines, but shells that are launched from ships. On Sunday, military divers pulled 8 of them right onto the beach. Everything is cordoned off there, but you can’t keep the boys, they peeped. The rest are still being pulled out. A separate underwater defense crew is looking for other ammunition, it seems that they have even already established the place from where they are nailed to our coast – from the Bosphorus. Right now, Russian cargo ships are sailing there, maybe they wanted to attack them?! Although people were told that the shells seemed to be old. As soon as everyone is pulled out, they will be taken to the landfill and blown up there. At first they wanted on Tuesday, but did not have time.
– Turkish newspapers write that all your beaches are closed. But what about tourists?
“It’s obvious that you haven’t been here!” Beaches are a big word. We have here entirely rocks, cliffs and bays, the descent to the sea over the stones is very dangerous, so no one even tries to equip it. And the only long flat area is considered a beach, and for simplicity it is called by the name of the village opposite. Here we have Sofular – and Sofular Beach. It is right in front of the center of our village. In one direction behind the Bosphorus rock, in the other – other villages of the Shile district, the same as ours, and the beaches by their name. This whole long beach is now closed. We also have summer cottages of Istanbul residents nearby, in Kumbab, they have their own private beaches, and on ours, as I said, only our boys are. Well, sometimes people come from Istanbul to swim: we are 80 km away, but the highway is good, wide, you can get there in an hour. Before the pandemic, by the way, groups of your shuttles from Istanbul were brought to us by bus. We were warned not to accidentally close shops and cafes, but we rarely have tourists here. Therefore, everyone who works goes to Istanbul. And the old people and children are at home.
What do they say in the village?
– What is most terrible, these deadly things are 10 meters from the shore, at a depth of a meter – that is, any child taller than a meter can accidentally step on. What if they exploded? Who will answer for this? We are patient people, we believe that everything is the will of Allah, but this is already beyond our understanding.
And here are the recommendations of the local submarine defense crew, given by them to the inhabitants of the Schiele district:
– If you find shells in the water, immediately report it to the police and move away from the place of discovery. Do not touch or move the finds yourself, as they can be explosive.
