Acting head of the DPR Denis Pushilin issued a decree establishing four new non-working holidays in the republic. One of them is dedicated to the entry of the DPR into Russia on September 30. “To establish that in the Donetsk People’s Republic additional non-working holidays are: May 11 – Day of the Donetsk People’s Republic; September 30 – Day of the return of the Donetsk People’s Republic to Russia; one day (Sunday) – the Bright Resurrection of Christ (Easter); one day (Sunday) is the Day of the Holy Trinity (Trinity),” the text of the document says. On May 11, 2014, a referendum on self-determination of the region was held in the DPR. The declaration of sovereignty by the republic was supported by 89% of those who voted. The Ukrainian authorities, the US, the EU and the OSCE regarded the referendum as illegitimate. Russia declared “respect for the results of the referendum.”
On September 30, Vladimir Putin signed an agreement on the accession to Russia of the DPR, the Lugansk People’s Republic, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
