“The year has started great for us, for the Communists of Russia. The team prepared everything superbly. In half an hour – a record time – the documents were handed in. The entire huge party stands behind these documents,” Mr. Malinkovich told reporters (quoted from RIA Novosti).
The LDPR press service reported that the Central Election Commission has accepted Leonid Slutsky’s documents and will register him as a candidate within 10 days. “Slutsky became the first of the applicants to submit the necessary package of documents for registration,” the party’s press service said in a statement.
On December 19, the LDPR congress nominated Leonid Slutsky for President of Russia, rotated the Supreme Council and approved changes to the charter. As a source close to the organization of the congress told Kommersant, it was initially planned that Mr. Slutsky’s candidacy for the post of president would be proposed to the delegates by the political algorithm “Zhirinovsky.”
