Manchester United after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo introduced a rule limiting the wages of players, reports Daily Mail. According to the publication, limits on the amount of the weekly salary will be set at the level of up to 200 thousand pounds.
As the Daily Mail clarifies, the changes were called the “Ronaldo rule”, since the salary of the Portuguese footballer was significantly higher than that of other players. In 2021, the publication wrote that after returning to Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo received 480 thousand pounds a week.
The new rule will affect team goalkeeper David de Gea, the newspaper notes. His contract with a salary of 375 thousand a week will end this summer, after which the goalkeeper will be offered a new agreement that will fit into the limit.
Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United by agreement of the parties at the end of November 2022. In December he concluded contract with An-Nasr club. The agreement is valid until June 2025.
