Daily Mail: 80-year-old Spanish priest found naked and strangled in his bed after quarrel with lover

80-year-old priest Alfonso Lopez Benito was found dead in his apartment in Valencia. Previously, neighbors complained about the noise, and the episcopate reproached the Holy Father for paying migrant men for sex. The Daily Mail reports this.

A former canon of Valencia Cathedral was found naked and strangled in his bed. The body was discovered by a janitor friend who had come to visit the elderly priest. An autopsy showed that the body had been lying at home for several days.

A 40-year-old native of Peru was arrested on suspicion of murder after he tried to use a priest’s card in a local bar.

The police suggested that the death of Benito’s father could have been the result of his quarrel with his lover. Previously, the archbishop in Valencia allegedly repeatedly asked the priest to stop bringing strange men into the house, which belongs to the Catholic Church; neighbors often complained about noise coming from the apartment during his meetings.

According to Valencian media, no signs of forced entry were found on the doors, and no other injuries were found on the priest’s body, except for a mark of suffocation. From this it was concluded that the killer was not a stranger. At the same time, the attacker sent messages from the priest’s phone to friends and associates after his death. They stated that he was going to leave Valencia for a few days for personal reasons, which aroused suspicion among investigators.
