Daniel Cormier, a former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight titleholder, expressed his opinion about the current UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev. According to him, Makhachev, originally from Dagestan, poses an even greater threat to his rivals than his fellow countryman and former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Cormier, who now works as an analyst and commentator for the UFC, emphasized that Makhachev continues to improve his skills and become more and more dangerous for his opponents. He noted that Makhachev, like Nurmagomedov, has outstanding wrestling skills, but has also shown significant improvements in the stand-up.
“Makhachev is becoming more and more dangerous,” Cormier said. “Not only does he continue to dominate the fight like Nurmagomedov did, but his punches are becoming more accurate and powerful. This makes him an even more dangerous opponent.”
Cormier concluded that Makhachev is arguably one of the most dangerous fighters in the lightweight division at the moment and he expects the Dagestani to continue to extend his dominance in the near future.
