Czech veterinarians decided to slaughter about 750,000 chickens at a poultry farm in the village of Brod nad Tychou, where an outbreak of bird flu was recorded, informs Czech radio.
This number of birds is approximately 15% of the total number of chickens in the Czech Republic. Slaughter must be completed within four hours, after which the poultry farm will be disinfected.
The farm in the village of Brod nad Tychou is one of the largest in the country. Initially, it was planned to slaughter 220 thousand birds here, but soon the veterinarians realized that the H5N1 virus had spread throughout the poultry farm.
According to the Czech media, there have never been such large outbreaks of bird flu in the country. It is known that 2.5 million chicken eggs will also be destroyed at the Brod nad Tychou farm.
Recall that in the Czech Republic from December 14 there is a ban on walking poultry.
