Czech Republic bans Russians from participating in sports competitions – Kommersant

The government of the Czech Republic at a meeting on June 28 decided to remove Russian athletes from participating in any tournaments and matches taking place in the country. This is reported in press release cabinet of ministers. The ban was introduced at the initiative of the Ministry of Education and is bilateral. The participation of Czech athletes in tournaments and matches on the territory of the Russian Federation is also prohibited.
This ban was initiated by the joint efforts of sports associations and the national sports agency. In fact, he excludes the participation of the Russian national hockey team in the 2024 World Cup in the Czech Republic.
The Czech Olympic Committee (COC) also opposes the participation of Russian athletes in the selections for the 2024 Olympics. The PSC also invited Russian and Belarusian athletes to sign sworn statements condemning aggression against any UN member state. The Committee believes that this is the only way to the Olympics for athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus.
The Czech Republic is not the first to introduce such sanctions against Russian athletes. In mid-June, the Polish authorities refused to issue visas to Russian fencers. IOC chief Thomas Bach criticized actions of the Polish authorities and called them discriminatory. The IOC has not yet made a final decision on the participation of athletes from the Russian Federation at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris
