Czech hockey player Hasek refused to return the money earned at Spartak

Two-time Stanley Cup winner, Olympic champion in the Czech national hockey team Dominik Hasek refused to return the money earned in Spartak Moscow. He played for the team in the 2010/11 season.
The athlete noted that he received money for his work. “The club doesn’t owe me anything, and I don’t owe them anything. I personally do not demand anything from him because the situation in Russia has changed. As far as I remember, not a single politician, official or anyone else warned me about any danger or illegality of the game in Russia,” Hasek said in an interview with CNN Prima News.
He said that he condemns not the athletes working in the Russian Federation, but the Czech legislators who allow citizens of the country to work in Russia. “Our citizens, in this case athletes, provide labor and create values that Russia uses against us and our allies,” the hockey player is convinced.
Hasek is 59 years old and is the 1998 Olympic champion. He was the first European-born goaltender to win the Stanley Cup. In February 2022, Hasek from the National Hockey League (NHL) decided to terminate contracts with Russian athletes. Hasek said that, without interfering in politics, the NHL leadership “supports Russia” and in the future the league “will pay for it.” According to him opinionthe NHL must pay Ukraine $2–4 billion because of the Russians playing in the league.
