Doctors: the condition of ex-President of the Czech Republic Zeman after the operation remains serious

The condition of former Czech President Milos Zeman remains serious after undergoing leg surgery on Thursday, the Motol Hospital in Prague reported.

The politician is still in the intensive care unit. “The condition is serious,” the hospital notes. “But it’s stabilized and not getting worse.”

Zeman will turn 80 in September and arrived at Motol on Thursday for a check-up. After examination, doctors came to the conclusion that emergency surgery was necessary due to a critical lack of blood in the leg caused by a blood clot. During the operation, doctors opened arteries in his leg and restored blood supply.

Zeman served as head of state from 2013 to 2023. At the beginning of his presidential term, doctors reported that the politician was suffering from multifunctional neuropathy. This causes loss of sensation in the legs, which is usually a neurological complication of diabetes. In April 2021, Zeman switched to a wheelchair due to problems with walking and stability.
