Cystitis and urethritis are expected: doctors reminded how to behave in the cold

In winter, the urologist’s constant category of patients is young people.

On the second day of the New Year in Moscow, the weather became frosty – weather forecasters talk about abnormal frosts, meaning temperatures that are atypical for early January. Thus, according to the Phobos center, the frosty influence of the Scandinavian anticyclone gives temperatures 10 – 11 degrees colder than the January climate norm. During the day in the city – up to -18 degrees, in the region from -15 to -20, at night it’s even colder.

This, we note, is even more gentle: in the Yaroslavl and Kostroma regions, for example, the temperature is about 20 degrees below the climate norm and confidently reaches -30 degrees at night. By the end of the first week of the year, up to 25 degrees of frost is predicted in Moscow.

This creates additional challenges for Muscovites, in management terms: in frosty weather it is difficult to walk on the streets for a long time (especially with children), and in general, driving around the city turns into an adventure every time. In these circumstances, Muscovites remember the old ones and come up with new types of winter entertainment, suitable for home conditions or compatible with frost. They also adapt to cold weather so that it has minimal impact on their life plans.

First, about the last one. In cold weather, which many Muscovites conveniently forget, the rules for being outside are completely different than in the usual “close to zero” temperatures. The postman Pechkin was right: no sneakers, only felt boots! Well, or in modern realities – high boots and ugg boots, at worst thick boots with thick soles, and knitted woolen socks under them.

“In winter, my constant category of patients is young people, those who wear sneakers and sneakers in the cold,” says urologist Konstantin K. “You shouldn’t think that only girls are susceptible to cystitis and pyelonephritis due to the structure of the female urinary tract. Young people suffer from urethritis and prostatitis, and they are very embarrassed about it, precisely because of hypothermia of the lower extremities and pelvic organs.

According to the doctor, hypothermia is especially insidious against the background of a drunken state: a drunk can spend several hours on the street without noticing discomfort. And then – pyelonephritis and other inflammatory syndromes of the genitourinary system. And, of course, vulnerability to respiratory viruses due to the general weakening of the body: this is what our ancestors called “got a cold”…

“For everyone, without exception, we can recommend not only warm shoes, but also insulated clothes on their feet for being in the cold,” says MK’s interlocutor. – These are long johns, leggings, leggings, and if you plan to go for a walk, then ski pants are best. In a word, if you plan to walk more than ten steps from the entrance to the taxi and the same number from the taxi to the theater, insulate yourself from below.

As for the upper part, scarves become relevant here, which are especially needed by people with chronic bronchitis, pulmonologist Anna S. told MK. “In cold weather during the period of recovery from respiratory diseases and if you have chronic respiratory diseases, I strongly advise you to cover with a scarf mouth and nose, that is, breathe through a layer of fleecy fabric, says the doctor. “This significantly reduces the risk of respiratory hypothermia, which usually aggravates the condition.”
