Cyprus freezes the assets of those accused of circumventing anti-Russian sanctions

Cyprus blocked bank accounts of individuals and organizations that helped Russian businessmen circumvent UK and US sanctions. This was stated by the Financial Commissioner of the Republic Pavlos Ioann to the CyBC TV channel, transmits German Zeit. According to the Cypriot Central Bank, this week the country’s banks blocked the accounts of 13 individuals and companies.
“The assets of the relevant individuals and organizations have been frozen,” Zeit quoted John as saying.
On April 14, after the citizens of Cyprus were included in the sanctions lists of the USA and Britain, the President of the country Nikos Christodoulidis instructed conduct an investigation into what happened. Two days earlier, Britain and the United States put on the sanctions lists a total of 20 Cypriot companies, including Almenor, Klaret Aviation and Navis Marine.
These companies belong to The Sister Trust (Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov and his sister are named as its founders). Also under sanctions were the companies Windfel, Savoler, Miramonte, which, according to the West, belong to Usmanov. In addition, 23 Cypriot citizens were subject to restrictions. 10 of them were born in the country, another 13 have dual and triple citizenship, writes Cyprus Mail. Their accounts were frozen.
