Cyprus extradites to Russia accused of fraud with payments for Chernobyl

Cyprus authorities extradited Russian citizen Boris Sosin. At home he is accused of stealing 2.5 million rubles. in case of fraud with compensation for property lost due to the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. This was reported by press service Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the department, in 2014, Boris Sosin began providing paid services to obtain compensation for loss of property during the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. To provide clients with payments from the federal budget, he sent fake real estate valuation documents to regulatory authorities.

A criminal case was opened against Boris Sosin under the article of fraud in receiving payments on an especially large scale (Part 4 of Article 159.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In 2017, the court ordered him not to leave. However, he disappeared, after which he was put on the wanted list. In 2022, a man was detained at the airport in Cyprus. He faces up to ten years in prison.

Boris Sosin was charged with only one episode of fraud involving damages in the amount of 2.5 million rubles. He made fictitious documents for a resident of the Bryansk region about her house, lost as a result of a nuclear power plant accident, in order to help her receive payment. The Construction Department provided the woman with compensation of 2.5 million rubles. She received 1.5 million rubles. The rest of the money was taken by Boris Sosin and his accomplice.
