In St. Petersburg, the daily record for the amount of precipitation in February was updated. During the day, 24 mm of moisture entered the precipitation gauges. The chief weather forecaster of St. Petersburg, Alexander Kolesov, reported this on the Telegram channel.
He mentioned that the city was comparatively damp almost 34 years ago, February 25, 1990. But then there was still more than a millimeter less precipitation than now.
Moreover, the past day, according to Kolesov, became the second most rainy winter day in the entire history of weather observations in the city, which have been conducted since 1881. The leadership was retained on December 26, 2009, when the city literally drowned in snow – then 28 mm of precipitation fell on the city in the form of snow.
“It’s not for nothing that I recommended yesterday that the name of the cyclone “Rixa” be remembered, since it will go down in the weather history of St. Petersburg,” Kolesov noted.
A record-breaking stormy day, during which most of the precipitation fell in the form of rain, did not pass without a trace for the city. Flooding occurred on roads, especially in lowlands. Cars struggled through the giant puddles. Today the northern capital faces another weather test. The temperature became negative, and all the moisture that fell froze.
