“The first scheme is related to the theft of QR codes created by customers in special applications using screenshots. Then the codes are used on third-party terminals,” said cybersecurity expert Sergei Belov.
The second way for cybercriminals to use QR codes for personal gain is to stick malicious codes on top of the original ones, and the third way is to stick them on posters and posters.
According to the cyber expert, after scanning the malicious code, the user is redirected to a malicious site where personal data can be stolen.
To avoid malicious QR codes, Belov advises using dynamic codes. However, if you want to scan a statistical one, you need to make sure that it is applied only on terminals that belong to the seller.
